Maple Brown Butter Icing

Ladies and gents, I present to you your new go-to icing for the holiday season: Maple Brown Butter Icing. What’s better than sweet maple and nutty brown butter. Honestly, try and name a better duo, I’ll wait…

It’s pictured here on what Dustin and I are calling “Cronut Whatchamacallits” with a little sprinkle of flaked sea salt – which i highly recommend adding to whatever you use this icing for *chef’s kiss*. This icing is super simple to make and unbelievably delicious! Seriously, you’re gonna want to drizzle it on just about everything!

Ingredients:

1 + 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoon maple syrup
1/2 stick + 2 tablespoons salted butter
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon maple extract
1/4 tsp cinnamon

*optional flaked sea salt for garnish

Instructions:

1. Combine all the ingredients for the icing except the butter in a bowl and set aside.

2. Place the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt, stirring frequently.

3. Continue cooking the butter until it gives off a nutty aroma and the butter begins to turn brown. Make sure to keep stirring the butter the entire time it is on the stove.

4.  Remove from heat and allow to cool for a minute.

5. Pour the brown butter into the bowl with the remaining ingredients and whisk thoroughly to combine. Use within the first few minutes of making as the butter begins to harden the cooler it gets. If you need to loosen the icing up again just reheat very slowly and gently in the microwave or over the stove until loose enough to glaze or be dipped into.
